The MACHINE DESIGN AND DYNAMICS LABORATORY (MD-LAB) of the Mechanical Design and Automatic Control sector of the NTUA School of Mechanical Engineering was founded in 1941 and is one of the oldest and most historic laboratories of the School. For the last decade, the Laboratory has been under the guidance of NTUA Professor Mr. Christopher Provatidis and NTUA Professor Mr. Vasilios Spitas.
The scientific areas it treats are related to the kinematic and dynamic analysis of machine elements and components (e.g. gears, clutches etc.), the modeling and design of power transmission systems (e.g. gearboxes), high and low pressure hydraulic and pneumatic systems, the applications of advanced materials in machine elements, the inspection of operation and structural integrity of machine components, the design and manufacture of biomedical tools as well as issues related to quality control and dimensional and geometric accuracy of constructions.
